  1. I am a former student of Jim B. This goes back as far as 1971 when Jim was teaching in New York City.

  2. I took lessons from Jim in the early 60’s. His studio was on West 4th. His lessons gave me a foundation that carried me through my adult life. I wish him the very best and a big thank you. I still have my Gretch drums that I purchased from him.

  3. I currently study with Jim, and I’ve learned so much! Through his guidance and pedagogy I’ve developed immensely in the area of: jazz swinging time, articulation, and phrasing. In addition, Jim has helped me understand body awareness as applied to performance practice – he has a deep understanding of how the body should move (stick/body choreography) when playing the drums, which is very rare among teachers!
Jim is a true master of the art of jazz drumming and it’s an honour and pleasure to be learning from him 🙂

  4. Congratulations Jim on your retirement! Well deserved 🙂
Your door-opening concepts continue to inspire and guide me every day, and your innovative books will be a valuable source for musicians for a long time to come.
You are a true master. Thank you Jim!
